Teddy vs Fox Face Pomeranian: Key Differences

Fox face pomeranian vs bear face pomeranian

Have you ever wondered if your adorable Pomeranian is a “teddy bear Pomeranian” or a “fox-faced Pomeranian”? Both of these terms are used to describe the facial features of Poms but are NOT official breed classifications.

AKA, it’s the same breed, they just have different looks.

P.S. I don’t consider the baby doll face to be the third face type. This is because there is little variation between baby doll and bear face.

According to AKC standard guidelines, Pomeranians “should” have a fox face. This standard has been followed for centuries since the breed was developed from larger Spitz dogs.

The most noticeable difference between a teddy bear and a fox face is the length of the snout. However, there may be variations in eye spacing, cheek fullness, and body length.

Teddy Bear Pomeranians

Teddy bear poms have shorter than that of a fox face. This gives them a distinctive look, with a well-defined face and fuller cheeks. In addition to its shorter snout, teddy bear pom typically has a much thicker, fluffier coat around it. The most famous example of a teddy bear pom is, of course, Boo. If you’ve never heard of him before, go look him up!

A fox face pomeranian has a longer muzzle type. Note that this could also be because they might have less fur around their face. Some people often mistake Pomeranians in their “puppy uglies” phase as fox faces when they are simply just losing their puppy coat.

The best time to accurately determine if your pom is a teddy bear or a fox face is when it’s 2 years or older, or when its full adult coat has filled in.

With that being said, if you’re considering adopting a pomeranian, PLEASE do not go around asking breeders, “Is this puppy going to be bear face or fox face?”.

The breeder will, for sure, find it annoying or offensive. Because they get that question a lot. And at the end of the day, good breeders will want their pups to go to homes that they’ll be loved no matter what.

Also, even if breeder could make a guess of whether your pom will be a ‘fox face’ or a ‘bear face’ based on the parents’ looks, there’s no guarantee.

At the end of the day, these little fluffballs are super loyal and loving pets that’ll bring tons of joy to your life.

It doesn’t matter what they look like, their playful and adorable nature is what makes them so special.

So, make sure you treat your Pomeranian right by showering them with unconditional love!
